Short Note on Goria Puja or Garia Festival
Garia Puja(Festival) is a festival held mainly by the Tripuri community from the India state Tripura. It is mainly worshipped among the Jamatia people.The festival is held in the month of April during the pre monsoon time. It is usually celebrated as a harvest festival among the Tiprasas.
How the festival is conducted?
This festival is celebrated in a traditional way by the Tripuri people. Children and youth play the drums, sing and dance in front of the Lord Garia. It is done to please the deity.
A bamboo pole is worshipped with flowers and garlands by the Tribals which symbolizes the Lord Garia.
Various ingredients are used while conducting the Garia Puja. The ingredients used in the Puja are fowl chick, cotton thread, rice, eggs, rice beer, and earthen pots. In these Puja sacrificing a fowl and offering the blood to the deity is a part of these pujas.
This sacrifice is done to please the deity and to seek his blessings. Garia is worshipped so as to bestow the people with domestic animals, family, peace, wealth, and good health.
The sacrifice of cocks is an important feature and another important feature is dancing and rejoicing after the Puja with rice wine or rice beer and cooked traditional Tripuri cuisine after the Puja.
